10 Best Performances at “Movement: Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival” 2013

Were these really the 10 best performances at “Movement: Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival” 2013?? Maybe. Maybe not. We only saw a fraction of the festival’s acts, after all. While we loved what we saw, we’re also certain there’s room for debate; debate we hope to generate with our purposely presumptuous title. So, here you go, our ten favorite performances at “Movement: DEMF” 2013, each with its own video, presented here for your pleasure and consideration:

1. “Matador” aka Gavin Lynch, Beatport Stage, Saturday, May 25th, 8pm-9pm

2. Dave Clarke, Red Bull Music Academy Main Stage, Saturday, May 25th, 8:30pm-10pm

3. Richie Hawtin, Red Bull Music Academy Main Stage, Saturday, May 25th, 10pm-Midnight

4. “Leroy Peppers” aka Christian Martin vs. “Worthy” aka Sean Williams, “Dirtybird Players” Official Movement After-Party, The Fillmore Detroit, Sunday, May 26th, 12am-2am

5. “Claude VonStroke” aka Barclay Crenshaw & Justin Martin, “Dirtybird Players” Official Movement After-Party, The Fillmore Detroit, Sunday, May 26th, 2am-4am

6. Dennis Ferrer, Beatport Stage, Sunday, May 26th, 8pm-10pm

7. “Masters at Work” aka ‘Little’ Louie Vega & Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez, Beatport Stage, Sunday, May 26th, 10pm-Midnight

8. “Audion” aka Matthew Dear, Red Bull Music Academy Main Stage, Sunday, May 26th, 8pm-9pm

9. “Squarepusher” aka Tom Jenkinson, Red Bull Music Academy Main Stage, Sunday, May 26th, 11pm-Midnight

10. “Squarepusher” aka Tom Jenkinson, Red Bull Music Academy Main Stage, Sunday, May 26th, 11pm-Midnight

Movement DEMF 2013 IIYep, you read it right: Essex, England’s Tom Jenkinson aka “Squarepusher” made our list twice! Easily our favorite act of the entire weekend! We heard more than a few confused and dejected teenagers walking away from Hart Plaza’s main stage as Jenkinson put its sound system to the test, mumbling to themselves, “What the hell is this crap?”, which, of course, only intensified our deep appreciation for this outrageously eclectic performance. Sadly, the weekend’s most highly anticipated DJ set, in our humble opinion, was marred by super heavy Memorial Day rains. Fellow Englander John Digweed was relegated to mixing for just a small handful of the bravest of hardcore techno Vikings, every one of them soaked to the bone, as the Beatport stage was transformed into something of a swamp late on Monday night. We’ll be following your tour schedule closely, Mr. Digweed! John Digweed at Movement DEMF 2013Please come to Michigan again soon so we can see you under more favorable conditions! In the meantime, we highly recommend our readers check out Digweed’s weekly world-class (and some) radio show, “Transitions”, which normally airs on London’s KISS FM, but is completely accessible to stateside fans through his website, http://www.johndigweed.com/. The latest “Transitions” broadcast  will start automatically when you visit. Enjoy! ~I♥DM
