Movement 2014: Ten Expert Performances

Movement Detroit 2014 John DigweedMovement Detroit 2014 Seth Troxler and Martinez Bros at OK CoolMovement never fails. Never. Movement 2014, the fifteenth annual installment of Detroit’s reigning champion of music festivals, kept the thrill completely intact with yet another flawlessly balanced roster of new blood and respected veterans. The highest high: BAAUER! The West Philadelphia native gets our vote for most captivating, nay, attention-DEMANDING DJ set of the entire event. Absolutely riveting. The lowest low: A poorly thought out trajectory for the deafening Moog Stage sound system and it’s joyful noise that unfortunately bled into the Main Stage mix all weekend. Here’s to hoping Paxahau returns this Movement Detroit 2014 OK Cool Flyersite to the orientation it has employed throughout most of the festival’s recent incarnations, with the dang speakers pointed toward the river.  On a final note, we declare an honourable mention for the stunning, triple-decker performance put on by Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers at TV Bar’s official Movement after-party, “OK Cool”, on Sunday night/Monday morning. Sadly, we were unable to procure a decent video of this stellar showing that, in our opinion, ranked among the top three DJ sets of the weekend. That said, we present here, in loose order of how much we liked ’em, ten videos of our favourite performances at Movement 2014. Enjoy! ~I♥DM
