Detroit Music

I Love Detroit Michigan has a soft spot for any musician that achieves national notoriety coming out of Detroit…but we prefer the underground. The way we see it, huge names in Detroit music like Stevie Wonder, Eminem, Aretha Franklin, Bob Seger, Kid Rock and Jack White already draw enough attention. We love ‘em all, but we’re more into names like Plastikman, Kenny Olson, Model 500, Negative Approach, Inner City, Don Was, Mule, Adult, Slum Village, Paperclip People, Big Chief and Esham. If you’re familiar with any of them, you’ve come to the right place.

I Love Detroit Michigan loves variety and covers all genres of music, but shows favoritism to Techno. We believe that Techno, more than any other contemporary genre, has perpetuated Detroit’s continued relevance on music’s world stage. Pop, Rock, Punk, Funk, Metal, Rap, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Soul, Gospel, even Country….Detroit has an internationally acclaimed superstar recording and performing every single one of these musical styles, but not a single one of them rep a genre born on our city’s streets. Outside of Techno, only the Motown Sound of the 60’s can lay claim to its genesis occurring in Detroit.

I Love Detroit Michigan likes musicians who bring their talents from out of town, too. When it comes to live performance, we’ll take a grimy club in the city over a north Oakland County arena any day, but we reserve the right to a wide variety of experiences, so you never know what superstar, up-and-comer, has-been or never-was we might cover next in our Detroit music pages.
