Uncle Harry’s Deli – St. Clair Shores, Michigan

Uncle Harrys Deli St Clair Shores 1Uncle Harry’s Deli at 21809 Greater Mack Avenue in St. Clair Shores is the latest addition to our list of favorite restaurants in Metro Detroit. Get your East Side lunch on at this old-school Mom & Pop type joint that serves classic, super stacked, Dagwood Bumstead style deli sandwiches, many featuring corned beef cooked to perfection on site. Take a seat at one of their low-riding bar stools and marvel at the impressive and conspicuous gleaming cleanliness all around you; always comforting at any dining establishment anywhere. Enjoy a Uncle Harrys Deli St Clair Shores 2generation’s worth of framed family photos that smother their wood-paneled walls as owner Rick Meltzer prepares you an amazing sandwich you can order by number or name. I Love Detroit Michigan heartily recommends every single one of the five mouth-watering sandwich creations pictured here and in our album: #4 aka Adele, #6 aka Donna, #8 aka Marilyn, #12 aka Catherine, and #16 aka Marc. Add and subtract your 6 Donna Grilled at Uncle Harrys Deli12 Catherine at Uncle Harrys Delipreferred toppings at will. Also, be sure to try your new favorite both cold and grilled, and on both house rye and ‘marble bread’, baked locally by Assimacopoulos Supreme Baking Company. Topping our list of items to try on our next visit are two more of their notable sandwich specialties: “Larry’s 4 Adele at Uncle Harrys Deli8 Marilyn with Lettuce at Uncle Harrys DeliCornburger” and “Charlies Deli-Belli Buster”. The decadent Larry’s Cornburger consists of a traditional hamburger patty topped with corned beef and swiss cheese, served on an onion roll with fries on the side, while the indulgent Charlie’s Deli-Belli Buster features corned beef, ham, pastrami, French Fries at Uncle Harrys Delisalami, American & Swiss cheese, cole slaw and Russian dressing all on a single sandwich! If you find you can’t get enough of their quality meat, have no fear, you can take home nearly every one of their varieties at reasonable by-the-pound prices. Excellent non-sandwich menu items include Cabbage and Matzo Ball Soups, French Fries & Onion Rings, Made-Rite Brand Potato Chips, a decent selection of Dr. Brown’s Brand Canned Sodas, and Pepsi-Cola fountain New York Style Cheesecake with Strawberries at Uncle Harrys Delibeverages. Finally, we highly recommend you finish it all off with a sumptuous wedge of New York Style Cheesecake topped with strawberries or a slice of one of their many varieties of home-made pie. Keep in mind as you dine that Detroit roots run deep in the Meltzer family. Rick’s Grandfather, Charlie, founded “The Schvitz”, a famed old-world style bath house on Oakland Street in the City, that his father and the deli’s namesake, Harry, owned for many years. The deli’s presence in St. Clair Shores dates back to 1977. The heavy interior flair speaks volumes, telling you that when you dine at Uncle Harry’s you also experience a small piece of Detroit history. Uncle Harry’s Deli is open from 11am to 8pm, Monday through Saturday, year round, except national holidays. Be sure to tell ’em we sent ya! ~I♥DM
