“Murals In The Market” – 35 Selected Works – Fall 2015

Murals In The Market 17 2As 2015 closes, we look back upon yet another high watermark of Detroit’s street art subculture: the wildly successful “Murals in the Market” project, a massive collaborative effort spearheaded by the good people at 1xRUN, Inner State Gallery and Eastern Market Corporation. We’ve chosen 30 or so of our favorites from the 40 to 50 new murals in the city’s Eastern Market district that were created as part of the project back in late September. It seems a fitting finale to our year’s coverage of the Motor City’s world-renowned, hyperactive street art scene. We can only hope our adoring readers, all thirteen of them, agree. So anyway, we’ve been sittin’ on these puppies since late October, letting them clutter our overflowing inbox until right about now. Before we unleash, be aware: some entries on our list aren’t part of the “Murals in the Market” project at all, but just happened to be created in nearly the exact same place at the exact same time, specifically entries #12 and #19, and possibly #2, #3, #9, #18 and #32. Hard to say for certain. Also, if you’ve any help to offer in properly identifying the creators of entries #3, #9 and #18 we’d love to hear from you. And now, without further ado……. ~I♥DM
